Annihilape Set to Debut in Pokemon GO on January 19
Niantic is set to introduce Annihilape, the final evolution of Mankey, to Pokemon GO on January 19. This release is part of Niantic’s ongoing efforts to incorporate creatures from Pokemon Scarlet and Violet into the mobile game, a process that commenced in September.
Among the cross-gen evolutions introduced by Pokemon Scarlet and Violet in late 2022, Annihilape emerged as a standout choice. Its popularity soared due to its prowess in raids, boasting powerful attacks like Close Combat and damage-boosting moves similar to Focus Energy. Now, after 14 months since its initial release, Annihilape is making its mobile debut. Niantic has confirmed that Pokemon GO players can acquire Annihilape starting next Friday, January 19.

In Pokemon GO, Annihilape follows a different evolution method, requiring players to defeat 30 Psychic- or Ghost-type Pokemon in battle while having Primeape as a Buddy. Evolving a shiny Primeape will result in a shiny Annihilape, featuring a slightly darker appearance while retaining similarities to the regular version. In Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, the evolution process was simpler, triggered by Primeape’s use of Rage Fist 20 times, a move learned at level 35.
The battle dynamics in Pokemon GO differ significantly, and achieving the required battles for evolution might take longer compared to Scarlet and Violet. Notably, players are not obligated to use the Primeape they intend to evolve in these battles. Using Primeape in battles against Psychic creatures is not recommended, as they pose a challenge to Fighting types like Mankey and Primeape.
For players still missing Mankey or Primeape, Niantic has facilitated easier acquisition between January 19 and January 24. During this period, 3-star Primeape raids, increased Mankey spawn rates, and Field Research Tasks rewarding Mankey will be available to enhance the opportunity to obtain these Pokemon.
