The task of RES3DINV software from Geotomo Software is to create 3D models of the earth. Arrays supported in the program include pole pole, dipole, inline dipole, equatorial dipole, and Wenner-Schlumberger and non-conventional arrays.
RES3DINV uses an exclusive Gauss-Newton least-squares inversion technique to generate a 3D subsurface model from the apparent resistivity data alone.
The program is completely automatic and the user does not even need to provide an initial model. By supporting parallel calculations in the program, the inversion time is significantly reduced. Also, the effects of topography can be modeled using a finite element mesh so that the surface of the mesh matches the topography.

Topographic effects can be modeled by using a distorted finite-element grid such that the surface of the grid matches the topography.
